Create/Edit drop-down menu using template gadget...

Create/Edit drop-down menu using template gadget.

A drop-down menu helps in showing the website content/ articles according to it's categories. You can put your posts under one or more category or categories. Menu helps the readers to navigate the blog content or posts easily. This also helps in getting the AdSense approval for a website (If you haven’t got the AdSense approval yet then you must add the proper navigation menu to your blog). Google Approves the site which have good navigation features.

There are two ways of adding the posts to the menu i.e. through template widget and through HTML. In this post I have explained the template Widget way of adding posts to menu. This full article contains important information. If you miss any of it, your drop-down menu will not appear properly.

Related- Create/Edit drop-down menu in HTML.

Follow the below steps to add Menu/ drop-down menu…
1- Open your Blogger account.

2- Go to Layout.

3- Find main menu or just menu widget.

4- Click on edit.

Now a pop-up window will appear on your device screen.

5- Enter the post/article title in Enter new site name box. (Try to keep the title as short as possible).

6- Copy and Paste the URL of your post/article in New site URL box.

7- Click on add link.

 Important instructions...

(1)
To add category in main menu bar just enter the name inside Enter new site box. And in New site URL box just enter #.

Input

Output

(2)
If you want to create a drop-down list then add an underscore or underline (_) at the beginning of the post title in Enter New Site box.
Example: _Blogger Guide. (See the below picture).

And then add the link of the article in New Site URL box.

Input

Output

(3)
Now, to create an additional drop-down list under a drop-down list you have to add two underscores or underlines at the beginning of the post title.
Example: __Blogger Guide. (See the below image).

And post/article URL in New Site URL box.

 Input

Output

If you have many categories and posts, then you have to adjust the order of your posts so that it can appear under right category. Read the below information to adjust the posts…

Put the Category name first. (A category name doesn’t include the underscore or underline at the beginning of the name).

Now look for the articles which fall under your category. Once you identify the articles, click on the down or up arrow to bring it under the category.

If you have created an additional drop-down list then bring those articles under the name though which the list will open. All those posts title should carry two underscore or underlines. (See the below image).
If you put one underline or underscore then that particular post will appear in first drop-down list only.

Input.

Result.

In the above image various mobiles are listed. The category is Mobiles. When a reader moves his mouse on mobiles category, first drop-down list will appear.  And when the reader moves his mouse to More Mobiles the other drop-down menu will appear.
